Regretful Mistakes

The room is noisy and full
but he feels a stiffness in the air

She stands on the
opposing side, twirling her hair

Glancing at the floor
pretending to study the pattern it plays
She recalls of happier days

Days when his smile was so beautiful
and her cheeks so red
But those days like running water had fastly fled

Only the memories and an occasional glance
here and there, at a social gathering with his new romance

He said he loved his new beau
But they both knew
that it was
and never would be
true
