To My Graduate
You left this life so suddenly,
with things you'd left undone.
I'll try to do as many,
the way you would have done,
my son.
We went to your graduation,
the day we laid your soul to rest.
Many friends were there to greet us,
and we felt so very blessed.
Your cap and gown was draped
around the chair where you'd have sat,
amongst your friends and classmates,
where all your dreams were at.
Each name was called in order,
as they placed a single rose,
in a vase beside your picture,
while their teardrops gently flowed.
It was a bittersweet engagement,
but one I felt we had to own,
to honor your achievements,
for all the years of work you'd shown.
I know that there is much more
I must do in life, for you.
Just know, I'll try my very best,
the way you'd want me to.
You left this life so suddenly,
with things you'd left undone.
I'll try to do as many,
the way you would have done,
my son.
