What if today was the day? (Acrostic)
What if today was the day?
Happiness was taken away.
A "thief" who'd been waiting for you
Takes the life you worked hard to subdue.
In one fleeting moment of fate
Fear leads your way to the gate.
To fight it would just make you weak.
Only glimpses of life can you seek.
Death comes quick as you try to change,
And apologies you try to arrange.
You know that it's too late to pray.
What if today was the day?
Ask yourself of the people you knew,
Should I have been a better person to you?
Tell them all that you can while you're here.
House a smile and a word of good cheer.
Everyday you have time to prepare.
Don't get caught by the "thief" unaware.
Ask forgiveness for all of your plights....
Your "thief" may have you in his sights.

I enjoyed reading this. I have tried to live my life in this way for some time now--always mindful to forgive, ask forgiveness, never go to bed angry, and always kiss my loved one(s) when I leave. Who knows, today might be the day.
P.S.-- Take a look at my poem posted today, entitled "Torture." It was acrostically written, as well.
Five stars!!! Ten if I could! It's an acrostic, it rhymes, it's realistic: it's absolutely great!
