The Way It Seems

It feels good to see you today, son.
I know it's been a long long time.
Seems you haven't changed that much
Since you last were on my mind.

Your sister is eighteen now.
She quit school her senior year.
Seems life has been so hard for her
Since you have not been here.

She's moved out of the house now.
She lives from place to place.
Seems she's lost all her ambition
Since you left this emply space.

I'm so glad that you are home, son.
We haven't talked in such a while
Seems your friends come by here often
Since they also miss your smile.

Papa still works very hard.
He works in the heat all day.
Seems he looks so old and tired
Since the day you went away.

He holds on to me tightly
As the days pass slowly by.
Seems I need that more than ever
Since all I can do is cry.

Son, I think about you often.
I wish I could hold you close
Seems it hasn't been so long ago
Since your honda left the road.

It felt good to see you today, son.
I wish I could say goodbye.
Seems I have to keep you with me
Since without you I would die.
