The Unmade Bed
The disarray of sheets
Piled haphazardly upon my unmade bed
A symbol of rebellion
The once perfect corners
And pillows in their places
A small reminder of the past
The peaceful dreams
Once had while slumbering there
Replaced by tears and sleepless nights
That bed, our bed, my bed
A place of rest and renewal
Holds less than happy reminders
But as if in protest I continue my nights
Right there holding on to the past
Grasping desperately for the future
I open my eyes to my new life, my new sheets
Those ridiculous monkeys climbing after apples
The perfect comical relief to my so called life
