I had this suggested to me: "Shouldn't there be a way to tell who is rating a particular poem? Just curious."

What do you think?

Actually, it isn't even as much about "knowing" who rated a poem, as it is NOT being able to rate your own poem. I just rated two of my own poems and now they are in the top-rated list. This just doesn't seem fair to me, as there are a lot of poems at this site that really deserve a spot on that list. I think rating should be done by the person who is commenting on a particular poem. Being "top-rated" should be an "earned priveledge" and not taken so lightly. Just my thoughts...

Ok, I see... so, you think that you shouldnt be able to rate your own poems... Who else agrees? I think you are right, people should earn their top spot!

Fair enough. I'm going to try and work out a formula where ratings are weighted (i.e. a poem with a 4.5 rating from 100 people should rank higher than a poem with one 5 rating)

I can't imagine rating? my own writng. Sure, I have favorites, but I like them all. Otherwise they'd be in the trash. On the other hand...rating would be so subjective, which is very relevant with regard to personal, emotional impact. I would very much appreciate a literary critique (maybe not as a public forum) by anyone who might be formally trained in technique, format, style, rhythm, etc. Too Much???

Being able to see who rated your poems is good; some people bash the works of others for all the wrong reasons; having the information would demonstrate a pattern of behavior, whether good or bad.

i think you should have to earn the top spot as well because it isn't fair for the "honest" people to be stuck on bottom and have others bypass because they don't think they should fallow the rules. just my opinion. i think you should be able to see who has rated yours so you can thank them for reading and appreciating your poems.

I was just wondering why the "Poem of the Week" has been the "Poem of the Week" for the last few months?
