Suggestions for "Browse Poetry"
Welcome to Poetry with meaning’s discussion boards. Here you’ll find the best place on the web to talk about poetry. But before you get going, you’ll need to sign in or register for a free account.
Its nice to be able to browse poetry by date, comments, and rating, but this is poetry! Take a look at the "browse poetry" feature they have over at the poetry archive.

Here, you can browse by poet, by title, by theme, and by form. I think this these options provide a very effective way to navigate through a collection of poetry. Would it be difficult to implement something like that on this website?
Hey there, right now you actually can browse by poet: http://poetrywithmeaning.com/authors
I guess the struggle we have right now is that we don't collect a lot of that information (theme, form). Are you asking mostly about being able to create collections of poetry? We could do something like that (allow you to create collections).
I think what he is saying is that,... take me for instance..., I write about grief, mostly. Some write about Love, Hope, Religion, Humor, etc.,. I think he means that it would be nicer and easier, if we could decide what "TYPE" of poetry we wanted to read, instead of having to hit the back button so much of the time. I don't want to read about the 14 year old not passing his/her spelling test or the cat jumping over the bridge. I would like to go straight to the type of poetry that interests me. As far as "Form", I asked you about that last month. There is no way to to write any type of poem except left-justified, (that I know of). It would be nice just to be able to Center one every now and then. There are many styles and "shapes" to poetry. It would just be nice to be able to have some type of formatting options. (I know you hate me)

No, I'm working on a couple of features and aligning your poetry left or center (right is just going to mess up a lot of things) is going to come too. But I guess: I can't automatically determine the form/type of poetry, so this would be something you would have to do by hand. I'll think about it, but in my experience it's been difficult to get people to post extra information (besides the poem itself). So we'll see how it goes.
When I'm managing my poems, it would be nice to have my list of poems sorted alphabetically. Perhaps we could be allowed to sort our poems into individual lists, based on our own personal categories. Just a thought. --Joe
enyaw, let's not bee to vague about "type" here. themes and forms are both types. As for form, form can be typographical or it can be structural.
I'll try to give an example. Say I write a sonnet about love (I wouldn't, but this is an example). It is nice to "tag" that sonnet by keyword, "love". This would allow people to find the poem, when they are looking for poems about love. Then, we could browse by sonnet... or haiku, sestina, villanelle, hip-hop, slam, etc... and wouldn't it be nice to find other examples of these forms?
Right now, poetrywithmeaning doesn't collect information about theme or form. Adding that kind of collection would leave-out any older poem, but I do think that, eventually, it would make for a very worthwhile addition.
Yes, I suppose it would be difficult to get people to enter anything other than the poem itself; and that sort of thing certainly can't be automatically determined. A tagging system, like del.icio.us has, for example -- that's pretty quick and easy to use.
i think genera is the word your looking for and i think it would be awsome to click a button and be able to look at just free verse or just quatrains or just humorous poems. i think the search should not limit to just author or title but also genera and form and.... anything else?
