To me its not just poetry, its poetry. To me its a beautiful thing and I feel so inspired when I read by some of my poetic idols works, from Robert Frost to Jack Prelutsky to Lord Byron and others.
Its a may to reach out and convey messages to readers that they can relate to or can even make them think a little bit. I probably enjoy reading it more than I do writing it. Poetry to me is an adventure!

I find it is a way to express the words you need to say, but can't. It's a way to communicate with the world through symbolization and metaphors, and finally find someone who will understand. Somebody like you.

Poetry is my obsession. It's what keeps me up at night. And if I have a writer's block, I suffer migraines... Poetry is my passion.

Poetry for me is a reflection of myself through words. The page being the mirror while the words my form

To Fades - Now that my friend, was poetic.

To me, and go easy on me, I'm new here, Poetry is about release. Writing in General is about letting go of one stage of your life and moving on to the next. It's my only constant, even though it's not constant at all, or even consistent for me... Heh heh.

Without throwing all the canons of the craft out of the window-one might like to learn what poetry is not? It is not about the poet-it is about observation-do the greats write about themselves? Giving the ego the slip lends itself to the muse eh?"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I've got promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep", is Robert Frost referring to himself/ maybe but it might be a created character? In any case
it is not self centred with its beautiful, meter, adjective and verb which carries the poem onward,it seems egoless. "I have seen my head grown slightly bald
brought in upon a platter,
but I am no prophet
and heres no great matter" -Love song of Prufrock-
a character, not TS Eliot.

Poetry to me, is like mist. When glanced over, it is just a gray fog. But when one actually 'reads' it, then they see the thousands of spirals and eddies that it is made of. Poetry is confined and directed magic. When its really beautiful, it sends shivers down my spine. I love poetry.

Poetry to me is, the soul speaking; the words which transcend from God through us, from soul and through body, that is what poetry is. It is the deepest and most unheard, yet the loudest voice for which so few are even inclined to listen to. Poetry in humanity is the heart speaking ... poetry is one of the most important languages people should listen to when spoken. Poetry is love!

I enjoy the rhythm of the rhyme. I love creating silly thoughts in a pattern of sorts. I know I'll never be one of the greats, but that doesn't stop me.
My thoughts expressed in poetic rhyme
Are creations from my inner mind
They may not follow a rhythmical flow
But they mine for me to show

they reveal another dimension to life
not visiable to eye
beyond below hearing
having nothing to do with the words itself

Poetry helps me stay sane.
I express what I'm feeling through my words.
Poetry is my reason to live.
Without poetry the world would be bleak.

poetry isnt just words
its art
ist not just rhymes
its feeling
its not just stanzas
its the souls of the poet out for the world to see.

we [as poets] put as much into a poem as a painter does into a painting or a pottery thrower does into a new pot.

that is the biggest thing for my poetry.

Poetry? I would rather be a rock star, a modern poet. We take ourselves too seriously and, on occasion, some egoistic poets verge on emotional solipsism. What makes it so disturbing is that we express individuality through poetry but other people still get it.
Love poetry - the last refuge of civility, manners, creativity and humanity. Last place where I can use a word of more than three syllables and get away without a blank stare.
Are poets really nerds who can't fight their ways out of wet paper bags?

i think poetry is an extension of your mind squeezing through the unstable cracks in our thoughts and splashing down on to the page in front of us during a time of emotional distress or wonder and amazement. it is the thoughts in our heads drawing a picture that other minds may or may not understand and interpret the way that you meant it to be.

poetry is life. it is a way to express what you can't in verbal tones, yet you can in ink. It passes throught the ocean that is our mind, and ideas buzz as if bees over a hive, when they flow out of you, you are spreading what you feel at the moment. or over that period of time. and poetry can be taken in many ways.

Poetry to me?

Compression, intensity, essentiality, euphony, passion.

These are poetry to me.

to me poetry is a way to let people take a dipp into you mind
see the world from your point of view
show them all what you've been through
never just words...
at least not to me.
that is my meaning of poetry
i think i'll make that a poem...^_^*
