Feature Suggestions: March
Welcome to Poetry with meaning’s discussion boards. Here you’ll find the best place on the web to talk about poetry. But before you get going, you’ll need to sign in or register for a free account.
Hey guys -- today I'm going to start a new series that hopefully I'll keep going once every month. I'm going to post three suggested features, and ask which ones you'd like, and your opinions on them. Please read the three features suggested below, and let me know what order you'd like them in (or if you'd like them at all), and any comments on how to make them better.
A. Friending - Have the ability to mark certain people on Poetry with Meaning a friend, and keep track of their activity (poems posted, topics started).
B. Kudos - Be able to give people kudos when they give you valuable comments on your poetry. We'd keep track of how many kudos you got, and could rank people with the most kudos somewhere on the site.
C. E-mail integration - Right now we don't really use your email except if you've forgotten your password. We could optionally start sending you emails when people commented on your poems, or sent you a private message, or when your poems were approved.
Thanks everyone!
A. Friending
This idea is completely awesome, because of the fact that there are so many great artists in this community, and a few stand out to each of us. With the ability to add them to our friends list we can quickly access their latest poems, and be able to read them without all the hastles of searching.
Simple enough reply, but I think I got it covered.
Some of us have been doing these all along, I am happy it is now getting a more site-wide recognition and support.
As suggested before ... will there be formatting tools? Centering, italics, bold ... colours?
I believe all of these features would be great tools to have and I'm looking forward to any other features P.M. might be considering.
oh boy i love this site and have introduced it to many of my friend and all of the suggestions sound soo great the only thing i would add was a way to enter you poems into contest (just among the people on the site)with different catagories for each week or month?
w/e something like that would be cool i think but idk if they already have that though i havn't really looked into it
Nope, there aren't any contests yet -- it's something I've considered, but it's a bigger undertaking than I'm ready for right now :) However I should have a lot more time coming up soon so who knows!
Thanks for all your feedback everyone, and keep it coming!
The many suggestions listed above all sound WONDERFUL... Thank You, for expanding the features PWM offers... and for your personal investment. I have enjoyed my participation very much. Recently, I had connected via-PWM mail with Poet Rick Brown and we worked on a duet piece. That was a cool experience.
For some more suggestions,
SPELL CHECK... A Poet's blessing... an answer to someone's prayer...
Another, On a Weekly/bi-weekly/monthly basis... PWM Staff come up with a TITLE- WORD. Then...WE THE POETS...can choose to create a variety of thoughts off those selected titles, and submit them. It can be a useful tool for those with writers block... It can be used as a tool to help some step out of comfort zones and write about things they normally wouldn't write about, or think of as being poetry worthy.
I had recently discovered someone had plagiarized my work that was posted here on PWM, and posted it on another site. I felt awful and uncomfortable, having to confront this individual- and to bring to their attention the rules of RESPECT and BOUNDARIES of a fellow POET. Does PWM have boundaries set, where a poet who were to commit such an act such as this person had, where they would be removed from PWM?
Thanks Again, PEACE OUT, ~4 SUGAR BEAR
Having a Word Processor (spellcheck, thesaurus, dictionary, etc.) help instead of just simple text. I sometimes notice a mistake or two days after I already posted a piece. Font change ability would be nice as well as a different color background.
If there is going to be a contest, make it to where we can submit poems that isn't limited on lines or words per line (I think you know what website I'm talking about).
Blogs, Blogs, Blogs...Let us post blogs if it's possible also.
Just some helpful ideas, thanks
~Jason
I love this site ! All the ideas and suggestions are great. Sugar Bear makes a really good point, the problems that arrive when someone does copy a poem or even a part of someones poem. Is there a way you could post the poets name and also place the copyright with it? Maybe even a way we can lock them from being physically copied. (I know nothing stops a 'pen and paper' though.) At least it would bring attention to someone that might be thinking of copying. I wouldn't know how to do it, but at least it would make them think. (maybe)
The site is fantastic and I am glad I ran into it. I did find it by chance. (myspace)
Being able to get feedback from others on here and leaving each other suggestions and all is a BIG PLUS for me ! LOVE THIS SITE !
God Bless,
LG
Control over personal tools such as deletion of emails, forum posts and the like would be good.
I read on other sites that have options to notify one through e-mail if comments are posted to poems to which one subscribes. It stimulates conversation.
Niko's suggestion to allow format selection is interesting but I think the widgets do no allow for this type of formatting, as interesting as it would be to someone like me who occassionally experiments with form.
I have a few more gripes/suggestions....
When scoping out poems on several pages, say page 7 for instance- I find it frustrating that once finished reading one selected poem on page 7, I like clicking the return arrow, in hopes of bringing me directly back to page 7 to continue reading the others on that page, instead, it automatically brings you to page 1, each and every time...... and then you have to continue to scroll the pages to get back to that page you were just on.... That gets old/time consuming fast..... Is there something that can be tweaked in accomodating this headache???
Also, There are times when poets post a piece or two, and then another poet posts a bazillion pieces.... I find that the single piece or two has been banished to the back of the class once posted, leaving the over excessed postings to be the majority in view. The postings of a single or two, tend to get overlooked in that situation- and I have found that to happen often...
Is there a way to post the singles at the head of the class, or cap a limit of daily postings???
Gracias, ~4 SUGAR BEAR
I like your suggestions 4 sugar bear, makin the website more personal...tools...post limit etc..
I think it would be cool to have a spot to list your in fluences...your favorite poem/poets, and maybe be able to mark someone elses poems as a "favorite" or something on the site..
I recently discovered
that you can't delete comments
because this guy http://poetrywithmeaning.com/authors/tfresher
decided to make a profile just so he could call everyone on the site "Gay"
and I really don't appreciate my work having this on the bottom
"thadd says:
you are for the last time gayyyyy!!"
k first of all.. who makes a fake profile on a poetry site and has time to comment 2o people and say the same rude thing over and over again
All I'm sayin is maybe we should have a choice to delete comments
Just a quick update for you guys, I've been slowly rolling out some new features (and fixing a lot of bugs). Here's what's live right now:
* Basic friending. Right now you can add/remove friends, and it'll tell you what they did last, and highlight their comments throughout the site.
* Ability to remove private messages
I'll make a post on the blog once I'm done with these features for the month and post a new suggestions list for April!
i definitely like the friending idea the best =]
i like a
i like them all specially friending
Good job... the friends feature turned out really well. :)
